What is the function of an expansion valve?

2024-09-13

The main function of the expansion valve is to control the flow of refrigerant in the air conditioning or refrigeration system. The expansion valve is usually installed at the connection between the condenser and the rear equipment to adjust the amount of refrigerant entering the evaporator.

The main functions of the expansion valve are as follows:

The expansion valve is an important component in the air conditioning or refrigeration system, and its function is to control the flow of refrigerant. The expansion valve is usually installed at the connection between the condenser and the rear equipment, and has four main functions:

Throttling and pressure reduction:

The expansion valve expands and evaporates the refrigerant liquid through the throttling hole or slot, thereby reducing its pressure and temperature.

Flow control:

The expansion valve automatically adjusts the refrigerant flow entering the evaporator according to the changes in the system load to maintain a constant temperature.

Temperature control:

The expansion valve controls the temperature of the evaporator by adjusting the flow of refrigerant, thereby adjusting the indoor temperature. When the indoor temperature is too high, the expansion valve increases the refrigerant flow, reduces the evaporator temperature, and thus reduces the indoor temperature; vice versa.

Protect the compressor:

The expansion valve can prevent excessive refrigerant flow and avoid compressor overload, thereby protecting the compressor from damage
